Welcome

Taverna “An to Petyxeis” is located in Moni, village, a very small and quiet place at the end of the Agia Irene Gorge, one of the most famous gorges in Crete.

The name “An to Petyxeis” was given by Vasilis Metocharakis, some forty years ago when he opened the café. The Tavern name “An to Petyxeis” translates to: “if you are lucky to find it open”.

The name came about as Metocharakis was the father of 9 children and was not always able to be around the store all day long. As a result, the café was only open for a few hours in the morning and a few hours at night.

In 2016, Mr.Metocharakis’ youngest son Michalis and his wife Monica, took over and renovated the café and transformed it into a small restaurant/taverna offering traditional Cretan food.

Absolute calmness, tradition and hospitality awaits you at “An to petixeis”. Michalis and Monica welcome you with warmth and offer you a unique gastronomic experience, along with the best Greek hospitality.

You can serve a rich breakfast made of local produces. The tavern offers hot and cold beverages and home-made specialties. Do not miss the excellent cuisine of Monica, based on the unique specialties of the island (upon request).
